My new motorbike arrived on Wednesday afternoon (photo at the end of this post for anyone who is interested. Please excuse the quality - I took it on my phone), a day later than planned because the delivery company had the wrong phone number and the truck was too big to get up out street but it got here eventually. I spent most of Wednesday evening assembling the bike as it arrived in a crate - that was fun. It is now assembled and running and has done a whole 1km which was all me riding around the driveway :). I managed to insure the bike on Thursday (£280 for the year, not too bad considering I only have a provisional license and no car license). I am still waiting for the documents to arrive. Until I have the insurance documents I can’t register & tax the bike (and so get a registration number issued) so can’t ride it on the road for probably another 2 weeks. Insurance documents arrived yesterday (26/5/09) and the registration is now being processed by the DLVA so hopefully it will road legal by the weekend.
Cost to get the new bike on the road so far:
Buying the bike £835
Delivery (a day late) £99
4 hours of my time to assemble £free
Oil £7
Deposit for the insurance £60
Registration: £55
Tax: £15
Total cost so far £1,071
Costs still to come:
Number Plate £20
Estimated total to get a brand new bike from China on the road £1,091
Not to bad really in the grand scheme of things and it wont need an MOT for 3 years which is nice. To be honest I think the most expensive thing might be appropriate clothing (helmet, gloves and jacket at a minimum) and security (locks etc) but at least those can be moved from bike to bike as I upgrade and so long as I don’t get fat(ter) or crash they should be a one off cost.
